Tubular heat exchangers (in tube heat exchangers) can be provided with straight or corrugated pipes. They all follow a similar structure, which is a single tube or several small tubes surrounding the outer shell.

5. Straight tube multi tube (CCT)There are two types of fluids used for heat exchange in a tubular heat exchanger. One flows inside the tube, and its stroke is called the tube side; A type of flow outside the tube, with a stroke called the shell side. The wall surface of the tube bundle is the heat transfer surface. To improve the heat transfer coefficient of the fluid outside the tube, a certain number of transverse baffle plates are usually installed inside the shell.
Baffles not only prevent fluid short circuits and increase fluid velocity, but also force fluid to cross flow through the tube bundle multiple times according to the specified path, greatly increasing turbulence. There are two commonly used types of baffles: circular and circular, with the former being more widely used.
Every time the fluid passes through the tube bundle inside the tube is called a tube pass, and every time it passes through the shell is called a shell pass. To increase the velocity of the fluid inside the pipe, appropriate partitions can be installed in the heads at both ends to evenly divide all pipes into several groups.
In this way, the fluid can pass through only a portion of the tubes and back and forth multiple times, known as multiple tube passes. Similarly, to increase the flow velocity outside the tube, longitudinal baffles can be installed inside the shell to allow fluid to pass through the shell space multiple times, weighing multiple shell passes.
In a tubular heat exchanger, the temperature of the shell and tube bundle varies due to the different fluid temperatures inside and outside the tubes.
